Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote is planning a major expansion of his Dangote Refinery in Lagos, aiming to increase its capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day, according to industry sources.
The project, if fully realized, would position the facility among the largest refineries in the world and significantly boost Nigeria’s domestic fuel production capacity.
The expansion is also expected to generate up to 95,000 jobs at peak construction, offering a major boost to employment in the country’s energy and industrial sectors.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products, strengthen local value chains, and enhance energy security in Africa’s largest oil producer.
Once completed, the expanded refinery is expected to increase the production of fuels and petrochemical products, reinforcing Nigeria’s ambition to become a regional refining hub.
The project remains in the development and scaling phase, with timelines and investment details still being structured by the project developers and partners.
