Abidjan Metro Line 1: Minister Hien Sié Yacouba Assesses Construction Progress
The Minister of Infrastructure and Road Maintenance, Yacouba Hien Sié, conducted a field visit on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, to several key construction sites of Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro in the commune of Marcory.
The visit included stops at the Canal Station in Marcory (PRA 5), located on Félix Houphouët-Boigny Boulevard, as well as the Marcory Zone 4 Station (PRA 4). He was accompanied by several collaborators and senior officials from affiliated agencies, including the Director General of AGEROUTE, Fabrice Coulibaly, and the Director General of AMUGA, Romain Kouakou.
At the end of the inspection tour, the minister reaffirmed the strategic importance of this major project for Côte d’Ivoire and particularly for the Greater Abidjan area.
“The Abidjan Metro is a flagship project of the Ivorian Government, initiated by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Alassane Ouattara. In the long term, it will significantly improve mobility in the rapidly expanding Greater Abidjan area,” the minister stated.
Minister Hien Sié Yacouba also emphasized the need for regular monitoring of the works to ensure the quality of the infrastructure delivered and compliance with commitments made to the population.
Extending approximately 35 kilometers, Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro is one of the most emblematic urban transport modernization projects in Côte d’Ivoire. Highly anticipated by residents, the project aims to sustainably ease urban traffic congestion and support the development of Greater Abidjan.
The government has reiterated its commitment to commissioning the metro by 2029, in order to provide residents with a modern, efficient, and adapted urban transport network.
