Côte d’Ivoire Secures BOAD Funding for Aircraft Maintenance Center in Abidjan

Air Côte d’Ivoire has secured financing of 35 billion FCFA from the West African Development Bank, a regional development finance institution that supports economic growth and integration across West African countries, for the construction of an aircraft maintenance center in Abidjan.

According to available information, the project aims to equip Côte d’Ivoire with facilities capable of handling aircraft maintenance and repair locally. In the long term, this is expected to reduce reliance on foreign maintenance centers, which are commonly used by airlines in the region.

The planned facility, commonly referred to as an MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) center, could also serve airlines operating across West and Central Africa. Authorities intend to strengthen Abidjan’s position as a strategic hub for regional air transport.

The project forms part of a broader effort to develop Côte d’Ivoire’s aviation sector, supported by the gradual expansion of Air Côte d’Ivoire’s fleet and network. It also responds to growing technical needs as air traffic increases across the continent.

However, the implementation of the project will depend on several stages, including technical studies, construction, and operational deployment. The expected benefits, particularly in terms of job creation and skills transfer, are likely to materialize in the medium to long term.

Through this financing, the West African Development Bank reaffirms its commitment to supporting major infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening industrial capacity and regional integration in West Africa.
