Côte d’Ivoire moves to secure fertilizer supply through OCP partnership
Bernard Comoé, Minister Delegate in charge of Food Crops, paid a working visit on April 24, 2026, to the Jorf Lasfar industrial complex of OCP Group in Morocco. The visit aimed to ensure that Côte d’Ivoire will have timely access to high-quality fertilizers at controlled prices for its food crop producers.
This visit follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding, confirming both parties’ commitment to a long-term partnership to secure reliable agricultural inputs. The initiative is a key pillar of Ivory Coast’s strategy to strengthen food sovereignty, improve agricultural performance, and sustainably enhance farmers’ livelihoods.
After the inspection, Bernard Comoé stated that Côte d’Ivoire cannot leave its farmers exposed to the volatility of unpredictable international markets. He expressed confidence in OCP’s industrial capacity to supply quality fertilizers in sufficient quantities and at affordable conditions.
He also reassured farmers that the government is working to provide suitable inputs on time and at fair prices, enabling them to produce more, sell better, and increase their incomes.
Rising tensions in global fertilizer markets continue to pose significant risks to Ivory Coast’s food agriculture, as price spikes could reduce cultivated areas and negatively impact food availability and rural incomes.
