Côte d’Ivoire’s oil and gas output surges in 2025 on Baleine field expansion
Côte d’Ivoire’s extractive sector recorded robust growth in 2025, driven by a sharp rise in hydrocarbon production linked to the expansion of the offshore Baleine field, reinforcing the country’s growing role as an emerging energy producer in West Africa.
Oil output increased by approximately 42.5% over the period, while natural gas production rose by about 17.1%, according to sector data and industry estimates. The strong performance is largely attributed to the continued development and ramp-up of the Baleine oil and gas project, which has become the centerpiece of the country’s upstream energy strategy.
The Baleine field, located offshore, is among the largest recent discoveries in the region and has significantly boosted Côte d’Ivoire’s production capacity since the start of its development phases. Industry operators have previously indicated that the project is expected to deliver substantial volumes of both crude oil and natural gas, strengthening national energy supply and export potential.
The expansion of hydrocarbon output is increasingly positioning oil and gas as a key pillar of Côte d’Ivoire’s economy. The sector’s growth is expected to have a direct impact on public finances through higher fiscal revenues, while also supporting foreign investment inflows and improving the country’s trade balance.
Authorities view the development of the extractive sector as a strategic lever for economic transformation, as Côte d’Ivoire continues to diversify its economy while consolidating its position in the regional energy market.
The 2025 performance confirms the accelerating momentum of the country’s upstream oil and gas industry, with the Baleine field playing a central role in shaping future production trends and economic prospects.
