Côte d’Ivoire: De Heus Plans to Strengthen Its Presence in Animal Nutrition

In Côte d’Ivoire, poultry meat consumption is experiencing one of the fastest growth rates in the meat sector. While the government supports the development of the local industry, opportunities are also emerging in related sectors.

Dutch animal feed manufacturer De Heus plans to build a new production facility in Korhogo, in the north of the country. The announcement was made during a meeting on September 17 between Sidi Tiémoko Touré, Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, and Paul Bizard, Director of De Heus Côte d’Ivoire, the local subsidiary of the group.

"This future facility will serve as a strategic hub, not only to strengthen local supply but also to serve the entire sub-region," the ministry stated in a press release.

While details on the exact location, production capacity, and cost of the plant are not yet available, the announcement confirms the company’s intention to consolidate its position in the Ivorian market.

Since 2023, De Heus has already operated a poultry feed production facility in Attinguié, with an annual capacity of 120,000 tons. That project required an investment of 8 billion CFA francs ($14.4 million).

The group’s interest in expanding production with the new facility is linked to the expected growth in Côte d’Ivoire’s animal production market, particularly in poultry.

Indeed, the country aims to more than double its annual chicken meat production to 200,000 tons by 2030, compared to 97,000 tons in 2024, as part of its national strategy for poultry development. This ambitious plan is expected to boost demand for animal feed over the coming years.
