Cape Verde: Visa on Arrival Suspended for Citizens of 96 Countries

Since January 1, 2026, Cape Verde has suspended the visa on arrival for citizens of 96 countries. Travelers from these countries must now obtain a visa prior to departure from a Cape Verdean embassy or consulate, as the EASE portal no longer allows online payment for visas at arrival.

Why this change?

  • The measure is based on Decree No. 244/GMAI//2025, published in the Official Gazette No. 223, II Series, on November 24, 2025.
  • It applies to entry visas, transit visas, and airport stopover visas.
  • Exceptions include airline crew, holders of valid EU residence permits allowing re-entry, Cape Verde residents, certain diplomatic passport holders, and persons born in Cape Verde with foreign nationality (under conditions).

Online Procedures

  • All visitors must still register online via the EASE platform.
  • Mandatory payment of the Airport Security Tax (TSA): ~3,400 Cape Verdean escudos for stays up to 30 days.
  • Previously, some travelers could pay and get a visa on arrival; this is no longer possible for the 96 affected countries.
  • The EASE portal now displays the message:

“You must apply for a visa at a Cape Verdean embassy or consulate. A valid visa is required on arrival, or entry will be refused.”
