Energy Efficiency Program: Government Mobilizes Over 20 Billion CFAF to Finance the Project
The Council adopted a decree ratifying a loan and implementation agreement amounting to 20,006,688,000 CFAF, signed on June 30, 2025, between Kreditanstalt Für Wiederaufbau (KFW) and the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, to finance the Energy Efficiency Program.
According to government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly, who announced this following the Council of Ministers, the program aims to improve energy efficiency in public buildings, reduce the state electricity bill, and enhance public safety through effective lighting of sidewalks and public spaces.
The program includes thermal and energy audits, as well as energy renovation works for public buildings, including the ministerial block. It also plans the replacement of 31,000 public lighting lamps in Greater Abidjan with LED lamps.
Ultimately, the program is expected to achieve annual energy savings of 24,148 MWh, corresponding to a 2.2 billion CFAF reduction in the state electricity bill per year. It will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 9,631 tons of CO₂ annually
