Côte d’Ivoire Strengthens Fight Against Synthetic Drug Trafficking Through International Training

Law enforcement officers from Côte d’Ivoire have completed specialized training on illicit synthetic drug trends at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Gaborone, Botswana, as the country seeks to strengthen its response to evolving transnational drug threats.

The participants, drawn from the Ivorian National Police and Gendarmerie, received technical and forensic training focused on emerging synthetic drug production methods, trafficking networks, and evolving criminal strategies.

According to officials, the program aimed to equip security forces with advanced investigative tools and intelligence capabilities to better anticipate and respond to increasingly sophisticated drug-related threats.

The training also emphasized international cooperation in combating transnational organized crime, a growing concern for African governments facing expanding illicit trafficking routes across the continent.

Security experts have warned that synthetic drugs are becoming a major challenge in Africa due to their low production costs, adaptability, and rapid circulation through criminal networks.

By strengthening the operational capacities of law enforcement personnel, the initiative is expected to improve coordination between regional and international security agencies while enhancing public safety.

The program reflects broader efforts by Côte d’Ivoire and its international partners to reinforce border security, criminal investigations, and anti-drug operations amid rising concerns over organized crime in West Africa.
