Cultural cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Canada, driven by initiatives that promote artistic exchanges and intercultural dialogue, continues to grow stronger. In this context, Her Excellency Sandra Choufani, Ambassador of Canada to Côte d’Ivoire, received Christian Ouaka, an Ivorian national and Director General of the Association des francophones du Nunavut (AFN), in audience on December 30 at her office in Plateau.
The meeting, which lasted nearly an hour, gave the Canadian diplomat the opportunity to congratulate and encourage her guest for his continued commitment to strengthening cultural cooperation between the two countries. The ambassador praised the regular participation of Ivorian artists in festivals organized in Canada, particularly in the territory of Nunavut in the north of the country, despite the particularly harsh climatic conditions.
“I especially wanted to meet you to congratulate and encourage you for your various activities in Nunavut. I know that for several years now, a number of Ivorian artists have traveled to Canada, particularly to Iqaluit,” said Sandra Choufani, highlighting the positive impact of these exchanges on the international visibility of Ivorian culture.
During the audience, the diplomat also mentioned the prospect of cultural exchanges between Inuit and Ivorian communities through an event currently being prepared by her services. This initiative aims to strengthen human and cultural ties between the two peoples.
At the end of the meeting, Christian Ouaka, who has been Director General of the AFN for five years, expressed his satisfaction with the discussions and reaffirmed his willingness to further contribute to the strengthening of Ivorian-Canadian cultural cooperation. He recalled that for several years, the Association des francophones du Nunavut has been inviting Ivorian artists during Black History Month.
Following the acclaimed performances of Bébi Philip and comedian Agalawal, the 2026 edition of the event will welcome artist Kerozen, further confirming the growing momentum of cultural exchanges between Côte d’Ivoire and Canada.
