Ghana and South Korea Sign Visa Waiver Agreement for Diplomatic Passport Holders

Ghana and South Korea have signed a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and South Korean officials during a ceremony in Accra. Under the deal, holders of diplomatic and service passports will be able to travel between the two nations without obtaining a visa.

According to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, the agreement is expected to facilitate official travel, enhance government-to-government cooperation, and support broader engagement in areas such as trade, education, technology, and development.

Officials described the agreement as an important milestone in the long-standing relationship between Ghana and South Korea, which have maintained diplomatic ties for more than five decades. The two countries have steadily expanded cooperation through investment, technical assistance programs, and economic partnerships.

The visa waiver currently applies only to holders of diplomatic and service passports. Citizens traveling on ordinary passports will continue to be subject to existing visa requirements.

However, both sides have expressed interest in exploring additional measures to ease travel and strengthen people-to-people exchanges in the future.

South Korea is one of Ghana’s key partners in Asia, with cooperation spanning infrastructure development, industrialization, digital innovation, and capacity building. Officials from both countries said the agreement would further deepen their strategic partnership and promote closer collaboration in the years ahead.
