Abidjan, March 18, 2026 – The Low-Carbon Transition (TBC) project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Transition in collaboration with Expertise France, contributed to the fight against climate change in Côte d’Ivoire by the end of 2025, said Alex Mayeul Lagaud, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Environment.
This statement was made during the 5th Steering Committee (COPIL) of the TBC project, held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in Abidjan-Cocody, in the presence of the EU Delegation representative, Jean Douzo, and the Country Director of Expertise France, Alexandre Foulon.
As President of the COPIL and Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the Fight Against Climate Change (CNLCC), Alex Mayeul Lagaud highlighted several key activities carried out in 2025.
The project provided significant support for interministerial coordination on climate action by assisting in the operationalization of the CNLCC and enabling the training of key stakeholders, including senators and members of the Economic, Social, Environmental, and Cultural Council.
According to him, the TBC project also contributed to the work leading to the adoption of the climate change law. Regarding the improvement of climate transparency, the project assisted the government in issuing the decree that will establish the National Climate Transparency System.
“This project has achieved significant results. We therefore wish to commend the support of the European Union and Expertise France, as the project implemented 35 activities and finalized five studies, resulting in a budget execution level of approximately €2.2 million. These figures clearly show that the project has greatly contributed to the fight against climate change in Côte d’Ivoire,” he said.
For 2026, Alex Mayeul Lagaud announced several activities covering various sectors, including support for climate action coordination through training workshops for COPIL members, CNLCC staff, and personnel; continued activities on climate transparency; and engagement with the private sector, following the major carbon market forum held in 2025.
For his part, Jean Douzo assured that the EU remains a committed partner and will continue supporting Côte d’Ivoire in implementing its ambitious low-carbon strategy.
With a budget of €5.9 million (approximately 3.8 billion FCFA), the TBC project runs from 2023 to 2026.
