On Monday, December 8, 2025, Japan’s Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae sent a letter of congratulations to Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara following his swearing-in ceremony, which took place that day after his re-election as President of Côte d’Ivoire, according to the Japanese diplomatic mission in Côte d’Ivoire.
Furthermore, the Japanese Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire stated that the Prime Minister reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and trust between Japan and Côte d’Ivoire, and expressed her commitment to deepening cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.
According to the statement, Prime Minister Takaichi also pledged to further develop bilateral relations, building on the achievements of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), held from August 20 to 22, 2025, in Yokohama, Japan.
Côte d’Ivoire and Japan have maintained cooperative relations for several decades.
