On Tuesday, September 9, the premises of the New Public Health Pharmacy hosted the delivery of a first batch of vital medicines to combat postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), acquired under the #SafeBirth Africa project.
The ceremony was attended by the representative of the Minister of Health, Public Hygiene, and Universal Health Coverage, Mr. Charles Aka Koffi, H.E. the designated Ambassador of the EU to Côte d’Ivoire, Irchad Ramiandrasoa Razaaly, and the Executive Director of UNFPA, Diene Keita, during her visit to Côte d’Ivoire.
The delivery of these medicines is part of the Team Europe initiative “Health and Sexual and Reproductive Rights in Africa” and is a flagship project of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy. #SafeBirth Africa, funded by the EU with 20 million euros and covering five countries, including Côte d’Ivoire with a budget of 1 million euros, is implemented by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Côte d’Ivoire and Unitaid.
This EU commitment aims to reduce avoidable maternal mortality related to postpartum hemorrhage, aligning with the priorities of the government of Côte d’Ivoire and its National Development Plan 2021-2025, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.
