Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed on Monday via social media platform X that a peace agreement has been reached between the United States and Iran, announcing that the official signing ceremony is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday, June 19.
He stated that “both parties have declared an immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”
The Pakistani Prime Minister paid tribute to the various stakeholders who contributed to the successful conclusion of the agreement.
He expressed his “sincere appreciation” to Qatar for its mediation efforts and thanked Saudi Arabia and Türkiye for their “immense contributions” to the peace process.
Shehbaz Sharif also noted that mediators will facilitate a series of meetings in the coming days to prepare for the implementation of the agreement. According to him, these discussions are expected to “lay the groundwork for the technical negotiations and the official signing ceremony.”
On Sunday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that an agreement with Iran had been “finalized” and declared the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
“The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now finalized,” the U.S. President wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“I am authorizing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without transit fees and, at the same time, the immediate lifting of the naval blockade imposed by the United States,” he add
