Urban Mobility: The Ivorian Japanese Friendship Bridge Eases Traffic Flow in Abidjan

To significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow in Abidjan, the country’s economic capital, the government has launched several road infrastructure projects. Some of these projects, already completed, are now helping to ease mobility and improve the daily lives of road users.

The Ivorian-Japanese Friendship Bridge is one of the major infrastructures built under this initiative. It is a double-level road interchange located at the Solibra junction, between the communes of Marcory and Treichville. Beyond easing traffic congestion, the structure strengthens road safety and improves connectivity between several key areas of Abidjan.

Thanks to this strategic project, traffic flow has become much smoother, significantly reducing congestion and travel time for users in this important part of the city.
“Before, it wasn’t profitable for us to transport passengers in this area because of the endless traffic jams. Today, it’s a real pleasure to drive here: the roads are clear and trips are much more enjoyable,” says Souleymane Yonaba, a taxi driver.

Commissioned in 2019, the facility is part of the broader urban mobility improvement program for Greater Abidjan. It reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing road infrastructure, facilitating mobility, and improving the well-being of the population.
