Presidential Election 2025: On Tour in the West, Jean-Louis Billon Declares It's Time to Right the Neglect

During a visit on Sunday, July 27, 2025, to Facobly, Kouibly, and Gueupleu, Jean-Louis Billon, a declared candidate for the upcoming presidential election, denounced the neglect suffered by western Côte d'Ivoire. Addressing large gatherings, he described the region as the “great forgotten area of the Ivorian administration.”

In Kouibly, where he reunited with the local MP he has worked with for 25 years, Minister Billon reaffirmed his commitment to fair and equitable service for all Ivorians, regardless of political affiliation. He painted a critical picture of the region’s conditions: isolation, lack of healthcare and educational infrastructure, high youth unemployment, and persistent poverty.

“You are a beautiful region, but forgotten. You deserve justice. You produce and export your goods. That is why we will industrialize this region,” he declared.

Billon also highlighted the agricultural and tourism potential of western Côte d'Ivoire, stating that development must happen locally for the direct benefit of its residents.

In Gueupleu, during a football tournament held in his honor — which saw Batengouin village win — he focused his speech on waste management and poverty alleviation. He emphasized the importance of supporting Ivorian businesses and boosting the competitiveness of young entrepreneurs. “Beware of illusion sellers. You know how to recognize them,” he warned, urging the people to sponsor his candidacy in the upcoming elections.

Community representatives voiced their expectations.
In Kouibly, Sangaré Seydou criticized the poor condition of roads, the lack of well-equipped health centers, and challenges in the education system. He called for clear development commitments. Speaking on behalf of Kouibly’s women, Guy Solange advocated for better access to funding, training for young girls, and the promotion of female leadership.

In Gueupleu, Dion Timothé requested a sports stadium, a water tower, improved network coverage, and local rice industrialization. Doh Emmanuel, president of the village’s mutual association, thanked the minister for building a youth center and expressed his support for Billon’s candidacy.

Through this tour, Jean-Louis Billon aims to position himself as the voice of marginalized regions, promoting an inclusive vision centered on equity, local development, and social justice.
