The observation mission of the USA Alumni Exchange Program – Côte d’Ivoire (USAEP-CI) presented its preliminary statement on Sunday, October 26, 2025, during a press conference held at the Ibis Hotel in Plateau, following the presidential election of October 25.
According to the head of the mission, Ms. Malika Kamara, the election was conducted overall in a peaceful and orderly manner, despite a few isolated incidents reported in some localities across the country.
“The presidential election was held nationwide under generally satisfactory conditions. Despite some localized issues, citizens’ participation and the professionalism of all stakeholders contributed to the success of the process,” stated Ms. Kamara.
A National and Balanced Observation Mission
Accredited by the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), USAEP-CI deployed 72 observers across 50 localities, covering 10 regions and the two autonomous districts of Abidjan and Yamoussoukro.
The observers monitored activities in 1,008 polling stations, mostly located in urban areas. According to the preliminary findings, 46.8% of polling stations opened on time (8:00 a.m.), while 53.2% experienced delays, sometimes exceeding an hour, due to the late arrival of election materials or staff.
The mission also reported that 74.8% of vulnerable voters — including the elderly, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities — received the assistance needed to exercise their civic duty.
Ms. Kamara commended the professionalism of CEI election officials and the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), whose discreet yet effective presence helped maintain calm and security around polling centers. She also highlighted the maturity of the Ivorian electorate and the good organization of the electoral process in most of the areas observed.
Recommendations for Strengthening Democracy and Peace
While commending the overall success of the election, the USAEP-CI mission issued several recommendations to authorities, political actors, and citizens. These include: Maintaining an institutional framework conducive to peaceful and transparent elections; Strengthening security measures for citizens during future electoral processes; Promoting dialogue and consultation among political stakeholders; Resorting exclusively to legal channels for contesting results; Improving logistics and ensuring the timely delivery of electoral materials.
In conclusion, Ms. Kamara reaffirmed USAEP-CI’s commitment to continue supporting the consolidation of democracy, lasting peace, and social cohesion in Côte d’Ivoire.
