Abidjan, June 21, 2025 (AIP) – The Vice President of the Republic, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, officially opened the 2nd Ordinary Congress of the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in the presence of thousands of party members and officials gathered at the Abidjan-Port-Bouët Exhibition Center.

In a solemn and mobilizing speech, the Vice President praised the strong commitment of party members, elected officials, party leaders, and political partners from across the country, emphasizing the unity and mobilization around the RHDP’s ideals.

Reflecting on the political legacy of President Alassane Ouattara, Mr. Tiémoko Meyliet Koné expressed his gratitude and pride for the man he described as the "champion of Ivorian development," highlighting the major achievements of the Head of State since taking office.

“Thanks to his leadership, our champion has initiated a profound transformation of the national economy, laying the foundation for a second Ivorian economic miracle,” declared the constitutional number two, to enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The theme of the congress, “RHDP for a Community of Ivorians in Peace, Prosperity, and Solidarity,” served as the guiding thread of his address. He emphasized the importance of peace as the fundamental pillar of any stable nation, saluting President Ouattara’s consistent efforts in this area, in line with the legacy of the nation’s founding father, Félix Houphouët-Boigny.

Stressing the close link between peace and prosperity, Mr. Koné noted that the country’s economic performance is the result of a calm and stable political climate. He commended the government’s efforts to improve living conditions, particularly through social dialogue, increased incomes, and public investments in key sectors.

“It is by nurturing this solidarity that we will strengthen the RHDP’s place in the hearts and minds of all Ivorians,” he stated, calling for more initiatives targeting youth, women, and vulnerable groups.

In a moment of remembrance, the Vice President paid tribute to several iconic party figures who passed away since the first congress in 2019, including former Prime Ministers Amadou Gon Coulibaly and Hamed Bakayoko, as well as Amadou Soumahoro, former President of the National Assembly. A minute of silence was observed in their memory.

Concluding his speech, the former Governor of the BCEAO urged the delegates to make this congress a time for strategic reflection and political innovation, in order to adapt the governance of both the party and the state to contemporary challenges such as sub-regional security, climate change, and evolving international relations.

“It is our responsibility to carry a forward-looking vision for all Ivorians, to build a fairer, more equitable, and more prosperous nation,” he declared.

Before officially opening the congress proceedings, the Vice President congratulated the event’s organizers and RHDP structures for their exemplary mobilization. He called on party members to remain united and committed to the values of peace, development, and solidarity.

This congress comes at a crucial time in the party’s life, as major electoral deadlines approach. It also marks a phase of internal consolidation, structural strengthening, and assessment of the RHDP’s track record in leading the country.
